Inspired by unfortunate true events from the life of the writer and director, Louie Carrigan, ‘car’ is a short film that recounts the experience of a family struggling with the guilt and confusion that comes with caring for someone with dementia. In this intimate portrayal of a father and son’s relationship breaking down, James Lesley’s conflicted mental state (played by Ben Porter) is left to play through bittersweet small talk with his father, Jim Lesley (Robert Austin Moore) as they move towards their unfortunate destination. Joan Lesley (Shaylyn Gibson), James’ supportive wife is left to guide him through the chaos as they both struggle to maintain appearances for what couldn’t be a more challenging time for a family.
With the camera placed in the backseat, you’re a passenger on a journey that will change a family forever. Created by Matt Butler and Louie Carrigan, this short was created over the course of 6 months with a budget of less than £500 and shot over 3 days in various locations along the M25.
